Confirmed incident: Reuters reports this morning, October 1, that shipping-intelligence firm Marisks has identified three Liberian-flagged tankers struck by unknown projectiles Tuesday while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The vessels were the Al Ruwais, Mersin Prosperity and Sinbad. All three were reportedly traveling with their AIS transponders switched off in an effort to avoid detection.
The cargo history makes this strategically relevant. Kpler data show Mersin Prosperity had recently been involved in transferring 2 million barrels of Iraqi Basrah crude, while Sinbad had loaded refined products at Saudi Arabia's Jubail industrial port.
