Sorocean fled Moldova to avoid serving a 17-year prison sentence and was first captured by ICE during the Trump administration in January 2020.
However, DHS confirmed that after her 2020 arrest, Sorocean filed a series of legal appeals to delay deportation and, under the Biden administration in 2022, was released back into the U.S. rather than returned to face justice in Moldova
