To me, as important as it is to ask why women prefer to go out and work rather than be taken care of, the bigger question is, why is it almost impossible to support a family on one income anymore?

The first part, I may be a chauvinist but I've always believed the biggest lie women have been told is that it's liberating to get a job. I'm sure many women love their jobs but for the most part work kinda sucks. So I don't understand why women generally wouldn't prefer to stay home and take care of the house, and raise and educate the kids. I'd love to do that if it was affordable.

But I also wonder about the second part. Why is it so impossible to support a family on one income, when it wasn't all that uncommon 100 years ago? Do we just want too much? Is our money worth less? Does our new technology just cost comparatively more? Is our life more fulfilling if it takes two people to support it rather than one?
