Update!!! My team has discovered the tamale pan. I don’t think they’re going to make it until the pot luck. lol They’re a hit!
So it's no secret I come from a Mexican family. That makes me incredibly picky about Mexican food from restaurants. Especially since we moved to the Midwest from Texas it's almost impossible to find a good restaurant. Everyone here covers everything with "queso" and calls it Mexican food. It's disgusting. I'm going to share something I found with you. My mother taught me how to make my own Tamales from scratch and for years my wife and I would recruit a couple friends over for a tamale party and after I prepared the chile, meat, and masa we would have an afternoon tamale making party around Christmas time. (It can be labor intensive) We didin't have any recruits in our new Midwest environment and you can't find a tamale around here that isn't dissimilar to eating the insole of a shoe. However, I did find this place in Texas that will make you tamales fresh. Then freeze them. And ship them on ice. I was skeptical, but I ordered 9 dozen for the Christmas potluck we are having at my office today.
I ate one this morning when I brought them in. GUYS!!!! DUDES!!!!!! VATOS!!!!!!!! They are AWESOME! They taste just like the ones I would have made and that my mother taught me to make! If your looking to buy a mess of tamales. This is it!! Take it from this chili-chomper. Now to make it worth it you need to buy in bulk and put them in the freezer. But if your looking for an authentic tamale, look no further.
