When I was 6 I got my first job. My older sister was watching me at her house and the neighbor lady asked her if I could watch her sleeping baby while she ran up to the store. I did, wasn’t long, she paid me a dollar and a bottle of soda pop. I was astounded, a dollar would buy a 100 pieces of penny candy. My next job was at about 9, helping neighbor deliver newspapers on his route. That was fun. Next was a job at 14 working in a produce market, later shutdown because it was a front to launder money for mob, the it was bailing hay.
Our boys when they each reached 15 became certified lifeguards and went in to other endeavors.
My point is, when did parents stop encouraging their children to work and why. It seems like if that would have been an encouragement growing up, things would be different.
Maybe it is because back in my youth I was glad to have a job and get paid even if it was a small amount. It was better than I had.
A main problem today, kids want to start at $15-$20 an hour and do as little as possible.
Back in the 90’s I worked with a kid about 19-20 years old. He. Worked all day at our job then bailed hay for a $1 per bail. Bailed 10,000 bails.
The commies have lost their minds, their way and their sense of purpose.
A little more humility and a lot more physical hard work would go a long ways.
