New development — second prosecutor leaves DOJ's Brennan/Mar-a-Lago “grand conspiracy” investigation
There is one genuinely new development this morning, September 29: Kurt Olsen has left the Justice Department team conducting the Florida investigation into whether federal law-enforcement and intelligence officials unlawfully coordinated investigations targeting President Trump. Reuters and AP independently report his departure.
This matters because Olsen had recently been involved in discussions surrounding the grand-jury subpoena of former CIA Director John Brennan, who has been identified in court proceedings as a target of a related false-statements investigation. Olsen's exit follows the earlier departure of Joseph diGenova, who had been leading the Florida investigation.
Importantly, the investigation itself has not been terminated. DOJ says it remains active, and the existing grand-jury proceedings—including subpoenas involving Brennan and former FBI personnel associated with the Mar-a-Lago investigation—continue. No new indictment or criminal charge against Brennan or the other people we're tracking was announced overnight.
So the distinction is: confirmed investigative personnel change and continuing grand-jury activity; no finding of criminal wrongdoing and no new charge.
