Good Friday Morning Everyone. Been busy thinking ----

AMERICA IS ON A PATH TO SELF-DESTRUCTION — AND AMERICANS NEED TO WAKE UP!

The DSA, the Constitution, Media Manipulation, Artificial Intelligence, and Who Is Responsible for America's Direction

October 9, 2026 | Opinion & Political Commentary

Written by Wayne Ripley with the assistance of ChatGPT.

I am not that good at writing. ChatGPT is good at that part. But the thoughts are my own.

Looking at America today compared with what our Founding Fathers envisioned, I believe we are on a direct path to self-destruction unless we stand up and fix it NOW!

Our constitutional republic was built upon individual liberty, limited government, private property, personal responsibility, and a system of checks and balances designed to prevent the concentration of political power.

Yet today, political organizations openly advocate fundamentally restructuring that system.

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is one example. And Americans need to understand exactly what this organization wants.

WHAT THE DSA WANTS TO CHANGE

The DSA's published 2026 political program advocates changes that go far beyond healthcare reform or higher taxes on wealthy Americans.

Its proposals include:

Replacing our Constitution with a new constitution establishing a democratic socialist republic.

Abolishing the United States Senate, eliminating an institution designed to provide states with equal representation.

Replacing the presidency and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary chosen by and subordinate to Congress.

Abolishing the Electoral College, fundamentally changing presidential selection.

Establishing public ownership of major corporations and essential industries, significantly changing America's free-enterprise economy.

Abolishing ICE, ending its detention and deportation functions, and granting amnesty to immigrants regardless of immigration status.

Extending voting rights to permanent U.S. residents, including noncitizens.

Moving toward abolishing the police and prison system, replacing existing approaches to criminal justice.

Defunding the Department of War, closing overseas military bases, and ending foreign military involvement.

These are not accusations fabricated by political opponents.

They are proposals contained in the DSA's own political program.

WHY THESE PROPOSALS SHOULD CONCERN AMERICANS

Consider what would happen if Congress controlled both the executive and judicial branches.

Who would provide an independent check on Congress?

Who would protect citizens when Congress exceeded its constitutional authority?

What would happen to the balance of power between the federal government and individual states if the Senate disappeared?

And what would happen to economic independence if government or publicly controlled institutions dominated America's largest industries?

DSA supporters describe their vision as expanding democracy and economic equality.

But critics see serious dangers to judicial independence, constitutional checks and balances, private enterprise, and individual freedom.

In my opinion, these proposals represent a serious potential threat to the constitutional safeguards that have protected Americans for generations.

Changing economic policies is one thing. Replacing the fundamental structure of American government is something entirely different.

Americans have the right to advocate constitutional changes through lawful means. But citizens deserve to understand exactly what those changes would mean for their freedoms.

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR AMERICA'S CURRENT DIRECTION?

In my opinion, responsibility falls on six groups.

#1. THE MEDIA — INCLUDING SOCIAL MEDIA, CHATBOTS, AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

This is at the top of my list for a reason.

Traditional news organizations have enormous influence over what Americans see, hear, believe, and discuss.

When news reporting becomes selective, politically driven, or deliberately misleading, the public's ability to make informed decisions suffers.

But today's problem extends far beyond television networks and newspapers.

Social media has become one of the most powerful influences on public opinion.

Algorithms determine much of what people see. False information can spread rapidly, emotional content receives enormous attention, and political disagreements are frequently amplified rather than resolved.

Millions of Americans obtain information from social media without investigating whether it is accurate.

Now add artificial intelligence and chatbots to the equation.

AI has tremendous potential to benefit society, but its misuse introduces another serious danger.

Chatbots can produce inaccurate or misleading information while presenting it confidently. AI-generated photographs, videos, and voices can make events appear real when they never happened.

Political organizations, governments, corporations, and individuals can potentially exploit these technologies to manipulate public opinion.

Even when no deliberate manipulation is involved, AI systems can reproduce errors, reflect biases, or omit important context.

And perhaps the most troubling development is that some Americans may begin allowing AI to do their thinking for them.

Instead of researching issues, examining evidence, or questioning conclusions, people may simply accept whatever a chatbot tells them.

Artificial intelligence should be a tool for obtaining and evaluating information — not a replacement for independent human judgment.

Whether information comes from CNN, Fox News, Facebook, YouTube, X, or an AI chatbot, Americans should question it, verify important claims, and reach their own conclusions.

A society that allows television personalities, social media algorithms, or artificial intelligence to determine what its citizens believe risks surrendering one of its most valuable freedoms: the ability to think independently.

#2. POLITICIANS

For placing political power, party loyalty, personal interests, and reelection ahead of their responsibilities to the Constitution and the American people.

Too many politicians appear more concerned about winning elections, defeating opponents, and maintaining power than solving the nation's problems.

Government was established to serve the people — not the other way around.

#3. LOBBYISTS

For using money and political influence to advance special interests, frequently leaving ordinary Americans wondering whose interests their elected representatives actually serve.

When political influence becomes tied to financial contributions and powerful organizations, the voices of ordinary citizens risk being overshadowed.

#4. COURTS AND JUDGES

For allowing political ideology to influence judicial decisions rather than consistently interpreting and applying the Constitution and laws as written.

An independent judiciary is essential to protecting constitutional rights.

Judges should interpret the law, not rewrite it to achieve political objectives.

#5. EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS

For failing to adequately teach American history, constitutional government, personal responsibility, and the importance of independent critical thinking.

Education should teach students how to think, investigate, question, and reason — not simply what to believe.

If future generations do not understand the Constitution or the principles upon which America was founded, how can they be expected to preserve them?

#6. THE AMERICAN PEOPLE

And although I list American citizens sixth, I believe this may actually be the biggest problem of them all.

AMERICANS GENERALLY CAN'T THINK FOR THEMSELVES

That may sound harsh, but I believe far too many Americans have stopped thinking independently.

They accept what politicians, television personalities, social media influencers, educators, and political organizations tell them without taking the time to investigate.

Now, with artificial intelligence becoming increasingly available, there is another temptation: allowing a machine to provide not only information but also personal opinions and conclusions.

Too many Americans fail to question what they hear or read.

Too many don't understand the Constitution, the responsibilities of citizenship, or the long-term consequences of the policies they support.

They follow political parties rather than principles.

They accept promises without questioning how those promises will be fulfilled or who will ultimately pay for them.

And that is precisely why the other five groups have been able to accumulate so much influence.

If more Americans questioned authority, investigated political claims, understood their constitutional rights, and demanded accountability, I don't believe our country would be facing the problems it faces today.

Freedom requires more than the right to express an opinion. It requires the willingness to develop your own opinion through independent thought.

THE DSA IS A WARNING ABOUT AMERICA'S FUTURE

The DSA's political program demonstrates just how different some proposed visions of America's future are from the constitutional framework established by our Founding Fathers.

Not every Democrat supports the DSA, and individual candidates should be judged by their own positions.

But the organization's proposals deserve serious scrutiny.

Americans should ask themselves:

Do we want to preserve three separate branches of government?

Do we want an independent Supreme Court?

Do we want private property rights and economic independence?

Do we want government power restrained by constitutional safeguards?

Or do we want to replace significant parts of that system with something fundamentally different?

These are not minor political disagreements. They concern the very structure of our republic and the protections Americans depend upon.

The DSA has the right to propose fundamental changes.

American citizens have the responsibility to understand those proposals and decide whether they would strengthen or weaken their constitutional freedoms.

MY FINAL THOUGHT

I am deeply concerned about the country we are leaving to future generations.

I see growing government power, political division, declining institutional accountability, and movements advocating dramatic changes to the structure of our republic.

At the same time, traditional media, social media, and increasingly sophisticated artificial intelligence are changing how Americans obtain information and form opinions.

Technology is advancing at an extraordinary pace. But is independent thinking keeping up?

The Founding Fathers understood the dangers of concentrated government power. That is why they created a system intended to prevent any one branch from becoming all-powerful.

Yet that system cannot protect itself indefinitely if citizens stop understanding, questioning, and defending it.

My greatest fear is not simply what politicians, political organizations, or powerful institutions want to do to America.

It is what the American people may allow to happen because they fail to think independently and hold their government accountable.

America's future is not predetermined. Its citizens still possess the ability to demand accountability, defend their constitutional rights, and pursue change peacefully through the constitutional process.

But that requires citizens willing to examine facts, challenge misleading information, question their own assumptions, and think for themselves.

Looking at America today compared with what our Founding Fathers envisioned, I believe we are on a direct path to self-destruction unless we stand up and fix it NOW!

THE FUTURE OF OUR CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC DEPENDS UPON AN INFORMED, INDEPENDENT, AND RESPONSIBLE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

THE TIME TO THINK, QUESTION, AND DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY IS NOW!
