My wife and I voted today. Place opened up at 8:30am, we were there at about 10:00am, and I was number 18 for the day. Didn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling to be honest. Only 17 people between 8:30am and 10:00am when I arrived.
I examined the system this year, I talked to a butch hair cut woman who took my ID, scans it, hands you a long portrait shaped sheet with your number, a bar code, and a few other unknown shapes on it. So they could, in fact if they wanted, associate a ballot to my name and voting choices by looking at my scanned computer login, and grab the ballot number off it. I'm not implying they are doing that, I'm simply saying there is a way they can probably associate your voting choices by knowing your number for the day which is printed on the ballot and compare it to your ID data when you scanned in.
I walked into another room with a few more observers wearing covid 19 masks, oddly colored hair, and ear plates and they assign you a machine. Today, mine happened to be 4. You put your paper sheet in it, and it brings up your voting choices. You can either choose straight party choices by the choice boxes, or choose on your own.
When done, you verify you like your choices and push done. It then prints your choices in plain english on the ballot, and you then walk that paper to another machine supervised by another individual, who happened to look pretty normal to me this time. You put your ballot into the slot, it scans it into the count machine, and the guy hands you a "I Voted" sticker.
Now I'm NOT implying there was any cheating going on. But I do admit to profiling the workers. The impression I got that even here in the deep south, the leftists are deeply involved in the election system. Purely based on my visual profiling of the workers. (I'm going to be painfully obvious, deep southerners do NOT have colored hair, plates in their ears, covid masks, and look like they haven't worked a day in their lives) They were all older folks, 50+ I would say. And one of the guys observing was someone I have seen there before when voting in the passed. My early voting location was at one of our County Voter Registration and Election Commission offices.
I also went to the same location when I voted in the Presidential election, and the line went out the door, and all the way around the building. My wife and I waited about an hour and half to vote for President in early voting.
This is just my opinion. And I'm going to be honest. Did I trust the workers there? Yeah, but I had reservations based on my visual profiling of them. Would I feel better if they were deep south rednecks like me? Probably not. But, just looking at the machines there, and using my imagination, I can see how it would be pretty easy to cheat. Again, just my opinion. But, I have no idea what to do to make it more secure.
People waiting in line were the usual working class, and retired individuals I see all the time around the denser populations. I did NOT see anyone who looked like they may be unqualified to vote, no people who could be profiled as "illegals", otherwise there was a fair representation of black and white folks. It was comfortable, relaxed, and pleasant.
