TEXAS ELECTION SHOCKER: NEARLY 1.7 MILLION MORE DEMOCRATIC VOTES — WHAT DOES THE MATH TELL US?
November 5, 2026 | Election Analysis & Opinion
The November 3 election produced one of the most remarkable political reversals in recent Texas history. Democrats swept all 15 statewide contests, including the U.S. Senate race.
But forget the percentages for a moment. The actual number of votes deserves much closer attention.
THE NUMBERS THAT STAND OUT
Consider the governor's race.
In 2022, Republican Greg Abbott received 4,437,099 votes, compared with Democrat Beto O'Rourke's 3,553,656.
In 2026, Abbott received 4,524,527 votes, while Democrat Gina Hinojosa received 5,230,789.
The four-year changes are staggering:
Republican votes increased by just 87,428 — 1.97%.
Democratic votes increased by 1,677,133 — 47.2%.
The Republican victory margin of 883,443 votes in 2022 became a Democratic victory margin of 706,262 votes in 2026.
That represents a remarkable 1,589,705-vote reversal in the winning margin.
In fact, approximately 93% of the net increase in votes cast for governor between the two elections appeared in the Democratic column.
THE SENATE NUMBERS RAISE MORE QUESTIONS
In the 2024 Senate election, Republican Ted Cruz defeated Democrat Colin Allred by 959,492 votes.
Two years later, Democrat James Talarico defeated Republican Ken Paxton by 1,195,609 votes.
That is a net reversal of 2,155,101 votes in the margins.
Republican Senate votes decreased by approximately 1.74 million, while Democratic Senate votes increased by approximately 414,000.
However, comparing a presidential election year with a midterm requires caution. Turnout patterns are different, and the candidates were different.
AT WHAT POINT DOES IT BECOME MATHEMATICALLY IMPROBABLE?
This is where I believe we must separate two questions.
Was the election politically extraordinary? Absolutely.
Was it mathematically impossible or statistically demonstrative of manipulation? The numbers alone cannot establish that.
Fifteen Democratic statewide victories might appear almost impossible if each election were an independent 50/50 contest. But those races shared the same voters, political environment and statewide influences. They cannot reasonably be treated as 15 separate coin flips.
What concerns me more than the sweep itself is the dramatic difference in voting patterns.
Compared with the previous midterm, Republican support for governor remained relatively steady in absolute numbers, while the Democratic candidate received nearly 1.7 million additional votes.
Where did that enormous increase in Democratic votes come from?
Was it newly registered voters? Previously inactive voters? Republicans crossing party lines? An unusually successful Democratic turnout operation? Or some combination?
Those questions deserve answers through precinct-level voting records, registration figures, early-voting totals and county-by-county comparisons.
MY ASSESSMENT
I believe Republicans would be making a serious mistake to dismiss these results without studying the actual ballots and turnout patterns.
But I also believe it would be a mistake to declare election fraud simply because the results were unexpected.
The mathematics establishes an enormous electoral change. It does not establish what caused it.
There is also an important distinction: Democratic victories are not automatically Democratic Socialists of America victories. The actual number of DSA-endorsed winners needs to be evaluated separately.
My conclusion is straightforward: Texas experienced a political reversal of extraordinary proportions. The question isn't whether the vote totals look unusual. They unquestionably do. The question is whether the underlying voter records adequately explain the change.
That is where a serious investigation of the numbers should begin.
Americans deserve election results that can be independently verified, regardless of which party wins.
