A significant escalation was reported September 5–6, 2026: the FBI and federal prosecutors are actively gathering evidence concerning Anthony Fauci and at least seven other scientists as part of the expanding COVID-origin investigation. Investigators have reportedly sought phone records, emails, research-grant information and financial-payment records.
This is materially different from the congressional contempt referral and state investigations already on our tracker. It indicates that Fauci himself is now within the scope of a federal FBI/prosecutorial evidence-gathering investigation connected to the broader matter that produced David Morens' guilty plea.
Status: Federal criminal investigation/evidence gathering. Fauci has not been indicted or charged, and the reporting does not establish that prosecutors have designated him a formal grand-jury “target.” Nor does the investigation establish wrongdoing....
