MAJOR UPDATE: On November 26th, 2025 President Trump announced that all undocumented Afghan migrants who entered the United States under the Biden administration will have their status reexamined, the pool potentially affected could number in the tens of thousands to low-hundreds of thousands depending on how broadly "undocumented" or "status-expired" is defined.
Trump's order would directly touch are the Afghans brought into the United States under Operation Allies Refuge and its follow-on reception pipelines in 2021 and 2022.
The number is about 76,000 Afghans recorded as legally entering the U.S. no records indicate how many have remained illegally or entered the southern border illegally.
The directive was issued immediately after authorities identified the Farragut West gunman as a 29-year-old Afghan national named Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who entered the US in 2021 and whose permission to remain reportedly expired in September 2025.
Two US National Guard members remain in critical condition after being shot in the head while conducting high-visibility patrols near the Farragut West metro station in downtown Washington, DC. Mayor Bowser confirmed it was a targeted attack. According to FBI Director Patel, the incident is being investigated as a possible act of terrorism. The suspect was wounded, taken into custody and the immediate scene was secured. Federal officials will provide a charging update on November 27.
US Secretary of War Hegseth stated that President Trump has requested 500 additional National Guard troops to reinforce security in Washington, DC. The Secret Service and large police elements remain deployed across the downtown core as the federal investigation intensifies.

Recent attacks in our capital, and coordinated political messaging by the six Democrats, that was designed to sow confusion and distrust, remind us that America’s security is more than military power — it is vigilance, clarity, and unity.
